What do the different nbn® speeds mean?

Manage your Services in our Self Care Portal
nbn® offer a range of speed tiers for customers on the nbn® network. The speeds refer to the maximum download and upload speeds available on the nbn® plan
Here are the different residential plans and speed tiers:
- VALUE 25/10: 25 Mbps download, 10 Mbps upload
- VALUE PLUS 50/20: 50 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload
- SPEEDY 100/20: 100 Mbps download, 20 Mbps upload
- SUPERSPEEDY 250/25: 250 Mbps download, 25 Mbps upload
- ULTRASPEEDY 1000/50: 1000 Mbps download, 50 Mbps upload
It is important to remember that these speed tiers are the theoretical maximum speed that is possible with the plan, but these speeds are not always achieved, particularly during peak times of internet usage. Peak times are generally between 7pm and 11pm when more people are likely to be using the internet. These are often referred to as Typical Evening Speeds
Other factors that could influence your internet speeds
Depending on your nbn® technology type, other factors may influence what internet speeds you can achieve at your property. This is particularly important to note on FTTN/B connections.
- If a property has old or poor-quality copper running into it, the internet speed achieved could be negatively affected.
- If the property has a long length of cable from the node to the property this could also negatively influence the maximum speeds available.
- Quality and location of your modem hardware
- Size and layout of your house, it might be difficult for a strong Wi-Fi signal to reach throughout.
- nbn® network traffic
- Interference from other devices in your home I.e., your microwave
Changing your speed tier for a faster connection
We give our customers the ability to change their speed tier at any time, as long as the speed increase is supported by their nbn® technology type. This can be done by:
- Logging into the Self Care Portal
- Selecting the Order tab and submitting a nbn® - Change Plan' order
Our team will take care of the rest! Speed changes can usually be processed on the same day as the request is made, so you won't need to wait long for your Wi-Fi speed to be taken to the next level.
